Daoo FAQ
What is Daoo?
Daoo is a learning game for toddlers and young children. Pressing a key or tapping the screen shows a real photo with its letter and word in six languages, spoken aloud with a sound-it-out pronunciation.
What age is Daoo for?
Young children from about 1 year up to about 7 and older. The start screen has an age guide (1–2, 2–3, 3–5, 5–7, 7+) that picks suitable activities and levels as a starting point; parents can change every option afterwards.
What can a 1 to 4 year old practise in Daoo?
Four areas, each with its own activities. Language: naming things, first letters, six languages, answering and asking what, where, who, which and how many questions, daily phrases and feeling words. Thinking: peek-a-boo (a hidden thing is still there), matching, shadows and shapes, sorting by kind, size and where things belong, counting, and animal sounds. Hands: tapping big targets, pressing keys, swiping, and dragging things onto shadows or into baskets. Feelings and social: naming feelings on friendly faces with kind ideas, manners, the child's own name and taking turns. The Guide lists every skill with the activity that practises it.
Which Daoo activities suit a 1 to 2 year old?
With the age guide set to 1–2: Keyboard smash with 3 words per letter, Peek-a-boo with 2 boxes, Faces & feelings with 3 faces, and Touch & explore with 5 things and "Where is it?" questions. Shadow match uses one big, forgiving shadow, and Sort it uses 3 things and 2 baskets. Parents can change all of it.
Which Daoo activities suit a 2 to 3 year old?
With the age guide set to 2–3, Mix & match takes turns between words, the object puzzle, Peek-a-boo (3 boxes, then "Where is it?"), Shadow match (2 shadows), Faces & feelings (4 faces with "Which face is happy?") and Touch & explore (10 things, with Where and Who says questions).
Which Daoo activities suit a 3 to 4 year old?
The 3–5 setting adds counting, plus and minus from 1 to 5, Shadow match with 3 shadows, Sort it with 6 things (including fly or swim, and farm, kitchen, sea or sky), Faces & feelings with 5 faces, the First letter puzzle, and Touch & explore with 20 things and Which questions.
Does Daoo include feelings and emotions?
Yes. Faces & feelings shows friendly faces for happy, sad, surprised, angry, scared, tired and calm. A tap says the feeling ("This face is sad.") and a short kind idea ("A hug can help when we feel sad."). From about age 2 to 3, Daoo also asks "Which face is happy?". It uses friendly cartoon faces, not photos of real children.
Does Daoo have hands-on activities like dragging and matching?
Yes. In Shadow match a child slides each thing onto its own shadow, and in Sort it into the right basket. For small hands, tapping a thing and then tapping where it goes works too. In these activities things on screen stay large, at least about 64 pixels, with fewer of them on small screens.
Does Daoo use scores, timers or rewards that keep children playing?
No. There are no scores, timers, streaks, levels to chase or ads. A puzzle waits until the child is ready, and a right answer gets a short celebration and a Next button. In Touch & explore and the activities for little ones (Peek-a-boo, Shadow match, Faces & feelings, Sort it), a calm rest screen suggests a break after the number of rounds a parent chooses (3, 5, 10 or 20, or never), and an optional play-time limit of 10 to 60 minutes shows the same screen in any activity. A grown-up holds a button to continue.
Is Daoo a replacement for a parent, teacher or therapist?
No. Daoo is a calm place to practise and explore with a parent nearby. It does not test, measure or diagnose anything. Easy to say is fun practice for talking, not speech therapy. If you have questions about your child's development, talk with your pediatrician or a qualified professional.
Which languages does Daoo speak?
English, Spanish, Arabic, Bangla, Hindi and Chinese (Mandarin). English is the main language by default; parents can choose another main language and whether all languages are spoken.
Are the photos real and checked?
Yes. Photos are real photos from Wikimedia Commons, and every photo is checked by a person before it is shown. A word without a checked photo shows an icon instead.
Does Daoo collect my child's data?
No. There are no accounts, ads or tracking cookies. Settings, including the child's name, stay on your device. The optional microphone practice opens the microphone only for a few seconds, plays the try back once from memory and discards it; nothing is saved or uploaded. The website counts anonymous visits with Vercel Web Analytics (no cookies, no personal information); the store apps do not. See Privacy.
What are reserved words?
A parent-only lane of up to 4 words per letter for your family's own words, such as faith or family words. Reserved words never mix with other words and can be switched off. Names of God and the prophets are shown as calligraphy text, never as pictures.
Is Easy to say speech therapy?
No. Easy to say is fun practice for talking: it shows a word slowly, sound by sound, then pauses with "Your turn!". It is not a replacement for professional advice.
Which devices does Daoo work on?
Today, web browsers on computers and tablets; Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome works best. Store apps are not released yet.
How do I stop my child from leaving the game?
Daoo goes full screen and keeps the keyboard inside the game. Parent settings and exit need a parent check: hold the top-right corner for 3 seconds or press Ctrl + Shift + L, then answer a grown-ups-only math question.
Can Daoo lock every key on a computer?
In Chrome or Edge, full screen Daoo keeps almost every key inside the game, including the Windows key and Alt+Tab. Other browsers can't lock the keyboard. No website can block keys that Windows or the keyboard handles itself: volume, brightness and media keys, Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and Windows+L. For a complete lock on Windows, a parent can set up a kiosk: Settings, Accounts, Other users, Set up a kiosk (Assigned access), then choose Microsoft Edge in kiosk mode with daoo.app. That account can then only open Daoo; sign out with Ctrl+Alt+Delete. On phones and tablets, use Guided Access (iPhone and iPad) or Screen pinning (Android).
